I remember times in my life where I felt like nothing could go right. I felt like I always got the bad stuff. I remember times when I was in survival mode and not really enjoying everyday life, but instead counting days to the weekend or the next break. I’m familiar with the Sunday night drag that comes when you realize your weekend is over and you have to prepare to survive another 5 days of a bad work situation.
But I’m here on the other side to tell you, change can happen. The journey might not be quick, and the path might not be easy. But if you are at a place where nothing is going right and you’re surviving, it can get better. Sometimes the very thing keeping us in a position we hate is the very thing we stubbornly do not want give up. So we create all sorts of excuses as to why we can’t change. And we blame all sorts of people and situations as to why we’re just going to be like this forever.
This breaks my heart. Some how, this mindset makes us humans feel better about ourselves and our situation in the current moment, but all it does is keep us TRAPPED. It makes change impossible. And it keeps us imprisoned in our state of misery.
I launched You Can Abound to focus on helping women who feel stuck find freedom. I share tools to help you focus on changing your mindset to attract positive and good things in life. I grew up in East Texas and was homeschooled till college. I started college at Biola University and thought I was going to have an awesome 4 year picture perfect college experience. Well, that didn’t happen. I ended up transferring to LeTourneau University and finishing my degree as a commuter student. While I’m very grateful for my degree and the experiences and education, my college experience was nothing like I expected. But it all worked out for a purpose!
After I graduated I was ready to conquer the world with my new degree… and I couldn’t get a job. My first job that I finally found out of college was serving tables at Cracker Barrel. Then I was as night manager at Denny’s for a few months. Then I tried to get into teaching by working on my master’s degree. A few months into my masters program that was supposed to help me get my teaching degree, I found out that route would NOT work after all for being a teacher. So I left that program and started an Alternative Certification Program. But, because I didn’t make the switch till later in the year I had missed the hiring season and was unable to get a teaching internship. So I spent several more months looking for a job and subbing.
I finally got a teaching job and ended up teaching for 6 years in the public school system. I spent 1 year in PPCD, 2 teaching reading to 3rd graders, and 3 coaching PE. I thought teaching in a school would be my career, but after 5 years I realized the stress and toll teaching was taking on my health mentally and physically was not worth it. So in the fall of 2020 I started working on my exit plan. My Husband, Tyler, who was also a teacher, both left public education in May of 2021.
Now I work for myself! And the stress is WAY less, the fun is WAY up, and the schedule freedom is BEYOND imaginable.
